Q&A: Victor Mikuly (11)

Victor Mikuly (11) is a student at Lake Central, he talks to Lake Central publications while eating his lunch. He talks about the interest in joining the Air force that he’s had since 7th grade.

Q: How long have you wanted to join the Air Force?

A: “Since seventh grade.”

Q: What or who was your biggest influence in the decision?

A: “My brother, because of his interests in the academies. My brother goes to West Point. He actually found it on accident. He wanted to become an officer. He googled officer and found something to do with army officers.”

Q: Do you have any relations to someone in the armed forces?

A: “My brother, my grandpa and my uncle.”

Q: What motivates you to succeed toward your goal?

A: “Leaving my house and making my family proud, especially my mom.”

Q: What about the Air Force interests you?

A: “Everything. I like airplanes [and] I really want to fly. I have a big fear of heights, but jumping out of plane would help me get over that.”

Q: How have you been preparing to reach this goal in the future?

A: “Taking hard classes, getting good grades. I watch videos about it. I went to an informational meeting in Indianapolis. I met a lot of other kids with the same interest.”

Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years after going into this career?

A: “[I would be] rich and in pilot school after other schooling. I also see myself starting a family.”

Q: Have you had any doubts about this future for yourself?

A: “Almost every day I get discouraged about my grades. I am doubtful about getting a nomination.”

Q: What are your biggest fears regarding this career path?

A: “Being away from everyone [is scary] because it’s in a different state. I also am fearful of becoming distant from family.”
