Despite the chilly weather outside, members of the International Thespian Society have started looking forward to what’s to come in the spring. During the meeting on March 4, the officers detailed some of the upcoming events.
Each May the troupe holds a banquet to honor graduating members, induct new members and celebrate the season’s achievements.
“The banquet theme this year is Black Tie Affair. It’s a black-and-white theme. I’m going to use all black-and-white decorations along with the [zombie-themed pictures of the seniors]. It’s going to be very classy,” Brianna Mamelson (12), Vice President, said.
After banquet comes graduation, which means saying goodbye to the seniors – and often some of the troupe officers. If a student has been a member of ITS for a year, he or she is eligible to apply.
“I find the elections fun. You can see people change. From experience, the process to get elected is rather simple. Fill out some paperwork, write a mini-speech and present it,” Aidan McCambridge (11), Treasurer, said.
Seniors shouldn’t feel left out of the action, though. Senior members of the troupe are able to apply for a share of money raised throughout the year. This year, the company has $2,000 to award.
“I’m applying [for the scholarship] because it is a very good opportunity to get some financial aid for college because theater has been a big part of my life and now I can let it pay off,” Emma Rose (12) said.
Information regarding the banquet, officer elections and senior scholarships are available on the Lake Central Theater Company website.
