The girls track and field team finished their home indoor track season Mar. 15, winning the meet against Morton and Munster.
“The track meet went really well and times definitely improved. The girls were more competitive than they were in the past. I am looking forward to times dropping, being able to advance, not only to Sectionals but Regionals, and going to State,” Mrs. Amanda Allen-Breski, Math, said.
The meet was a deciding factor of who is going to participate in the next big meet at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.
“To get ready for my races, I get myself pumped up and I listen to music when we warm up to stay focused. Today I felt really good. I felt like I had a lot of energy,” Maritza Castaneda (11) said.
Indoor track meets consist of four field events and 10 different races. The LC indoor track is much smaller than the standard outdoor track, thus putting more laps on the races.
“Today my races were good. You know your teammates always help you and push you and everyone is nice with cheering. Indoor track is a lot harder than outdoor track but you just have to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated and be prepared,” Jennifer Craig (9) said.
The girls keep one goal in their mind: State. The next meet will be March 21 at Carthage College.
