The varsity girls swim team faced off against Valparaiso on Tuesday, Dec. 1. They came out victorious with a score of 109-76.
“We were really enthusiastic. We cheered everyone on. We had a great attitude, and we were just really happy overall. I think our performance was absolutely amazing,” Marina Vasquez (12) said.
Even though Valparaiso outranked them before, the Lady Indians swam hard and were successful at the end of the meet.
“Valparaiso was ranked ahead of us, but even though they were ranked ahead of us, I kind of feel like [the meet] was in our favor. We have really good freshmen, and we just wanted to get out there and beat them,” Megan Earl (10) said.
The girls swam strong and hard in the meet, showing both their strengths and weaknesses.
“The meet went really [well]. We did win and we did have good times here and there. Then there’s times that we weren’t so good, but we still made it through,” Earl said.
The girls varsity team also includes diving. The girls team only has one diver, Kallie Higgins (11).
“I think I did pretty well. I mean, I beat my record that was on the wall. It’s not my personal best, but I still did pretty [well]. I was really happy with myself,” Higgins said.
The girls team came out strong in both swimming and diving. They were really happy to face off against Valparaiso and win.
“I think it went really well, not just the diving, but with the swimming. Before [the meet] we always have our [motivational] talks in the locker room, and they were all really worried because Valparaiso is a really good team. We were ranked below them in the paper, but I was really happy because the swimmers did really well. Overall, we did a really good job,” Higgins said.
