The LGI was packed for the April 14 School Board meeting at 7:30 p.m. Although a packed board room can usually foreshadow a troublesome meeting, the crowd was present to recognize some stand-out athletes of the corporation.

The meeting started with the usual business of updates from each of the board members to the superintendent, Dr. Larry Veracco, Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Al Gandolfi, and School Board President, Mr. George Baranowski. Shortly after the updates, Dr. Veracco and the board recognized the Clark 8th grade girls basketball team for winning the Lake Middle School Athletic Conference title and having an 18-0 season. When combined with their 7th grade season, the girls had a record of 42-0.

“I think it’s really important to recognize the outstanding achievements [of our students],” Dr. Veracco said.

Then, the spotlight was turned on the high school’s boys basketball team for reaching the State Championship game on March 29. Mr. Tony Bartolomeo, Athletic Director, introduced the team, mentioning that the State run helped to make us, “United as one. One Lake Central.”

Head Coach Dave Milausnic also took the opportunity of the honor to speak on behalf of the boys and thank the community for their support.

“I felt like the whole community was behind us at Bankers Life. I was happy with it because it felt good to be a part of the team, and to know the whole school was supporting me and the team was even better,” Christopher Tuskan (12) said.

After the recognition of the two teams, the Lake Central Education Foundation awarded grants to teachers from schools throughout the corporation, including Mrs. Lisa Moreno, Science, and Mrs. Louise Tallent, FACS.
