Best Buddies plans dance

Students and club members of Best Buddies are preparing for the annual Best Buddies dance to take place on Friday, May 9.

“This year I’m in charge of coordinating music. We are renting a digital jukebox because we couldn’t find a DJ that was available. The jukebox will be a nice change. This way, students will be able to select the songs they’d like to hear,” Noah Sarkey (12), vice president, said.

The dance was selected two years ago to act as an end of the year celebration.

“[The dance] acts as a final meeting where everyone can get together and meet up for the last time this year,” Sarkey said.

The dance is both fun and rewarding for the students who plan it.

“[I love] seeing everyone having a good time. [My favorite part is] doing the ‘Cha Cha Slide,’” Chase Lowden (11), president, said.

Much more than just music goes into planning the dance. It also doubles as a photo opportunity and a dinner.

“There will be dancing and a lot of fun to be had. Strack’s is catering the event and we’ll have a rented digital jukebox,” Sarkey said.

Though the Best Buddies Dance has no set theme, it closely follows the theme of Prom.

“We use the supplies from LC’s Prom, so we base it off of [the official] Prom, but there is no official theme,” Lowden said.

The Best Buddies dance is not only for club members.  Anyone who is interested in attending can see Mrs. Clark in room C318, Mrs. Freeman in room C224, Mrs. Hoffman in 9106 or Ms. Brann in 9015.  Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased before or after school or at the door.
