MTV takes a shot at “Faking It”

Summer brings a lot of things: longer days, bonfires, grad parties and the season finales of everyone’s favorite shows, from Pretty Little Liars to Teen Wolf to Once Upon a Time. However, MTV has taken a step to remedying this summertime-lineup sadness with their new show, “Faking It.”

At Hester High, the status quo has been turned on its head; instead of cheerleaders and football players ruling the school, it’s the art kids and the outsiders. Unfortunately, Amy (Rita Volk) and Karma (Katie Stevens) aren’t good at being either. But when Amy’s vengeful step-sister starts the rumor that the two best friends are actually girlfriends, their social lives go from zero to sixty in seconds.

Naturally, they go along with it.

Of course, there are plenty of obstacles for the fake couple, including Karma’s secret boyfriend and the fact that Amy may or may not actually be in love with her (because nothing in the world of television is ever easy.)

From its dry, “Awkward”-esque humor to its heartfelt moments, “Faking It” makes for the perfect guilty pleasure show. It deals head-on with sexuality in a way that doesn’t make it seem like a problem. (Here’s looking at you, Glee.)

“Faking It” airs Tuesday nights at 9:30 on MTV.
