Hitting home

Varsity boys baseball beat Michigan City 9-7 on Tuesday, May 20. The boys also celebrated their senior night.

“It was definitely bittersweet. When you’re a kid, you’re always saying that you can’t wait to get to high school to play for [Lake Central], but you don’t really know what it means to put the name on your chest until you get there,” Alec Olund (12) said.

Just like the near 80-degree weather during the opening innings of the game, Brenden Seren (12) approached the plate with a fired-up bat. Eventually the temperatures cooled, but Seren’s hitting did not relent. In the bottom of the sixth inning, he hit a home run that brought in two runners.

“It was really cool because that was our last game on that field. It was just really cool to hit the [team’s] last home run on that field,” Seren said.

Tuesday’s game marked the team’s last home game of the season. The boys have one more game against Bremen High School until sectionals hits off at Munster.

“It’s been a fun ride. It’s gone by so fast that we didn’t even realize it. It’s been fun to play my last season with the kids I’ve basically grown up with,” Olund said.
