The Lake Central varsity football team took home the DAC title after winning against the Valparaiso Vikings on Friday, Oct. 17.
“Coach said this should be a business trip all week, and we took that very seriously. Everyone knew it wasn’t just a game; it was playing for the DAC championship. It was a great win for us and it’s amazing to be the first Lake Central team to win this conference ever. We got to make history. It was a great experience for all of the seniors,” Quinn Paprocki (12) said.
The Indians won 24-7 over the Vikings. This was Lake Central’s first DAC title since they joined the conference in 2003.
Regardless of the slow start in the game, Cody Schultz (12) started the scoring with the first touchdown of the night near the end of the first half. Ethan Darter (11) threw three touchdown passes.
“We practiced hard all week because we knew what was at stake for this game. It feels great [to be DAC champs], especially since we went undefeated in the conference,” Schultz said.
After clinching the DAC title, the Indians are looking forward to Sectionals which starts on Friday, Oct. 24 at Lafayette Jefferson.
“For Sectionals, we all know the consequence if we lose, so we are trying to do just the opposite. We have all worked so hard this year [and] it would be a shame to see it all go to waste. We plan on practicing hard and playing even harder. Lake Central is a great organization, and I will be happy with our team no matter how we end up,” Paprocki said.
