The Lady Indians defeated the Hobart Brickies at home on Dec. 9 with a final score of 66-30.
“I think we did what we’ve been doing this season. Jumping on teams early and trying to play 32 minutes of Lake Central basketball,” Coach Marc Urban, Physical Education, said.
The girls played tough, and with hard work and determination, they came out on top.
“I think that’s just the personality of both teams. We both play hard, and we both play physical within the rules. I think both teams are similar in that regard,” Urban said.
The girls played a physical game, still managing to stay ahead of the Brickies for the whole game. For Megan Krol (12), this game posed a lot of opportunities for her to score.
“[It felt] good because usually my role isn’t really scoring that much and usually I pass more than I shoot. Other teams know I don’t really shoot much, so they don’t guard me real close. They play off me. My coach was telling me I needed to get some shots, so they respect me and get close to me. I just took more shots, and it felt good,” Krol said.
Being a point guard, Krol usually is not in the position to score often.
“Megan’s our point guard. She facilitates, and she’s always trying to get people in the position to score. They weren’t guarding her tonight, and she was able to capitalize on knocking some threes in,” Coach Urban said.
Throughout the game, she scored a total of 12 points.
“We were running other plays, and they were leaving me wide open. Then we just kept reversing the ball, and they were hitting me and I was wide open so I was just able to lay down some shots,” Krol said.
The varsity team is now 8-1 and will be playing the Michigan City Wolves at home on Dec.12.
