The varsity volleyball team dominated the Andrean 59er’s in the first home game of the season on Thursday, Aug. 20. The Indians broke in the new gym by winning the game in three sets, with scores of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-23.
“We’re loving [the new gym] right now. The lighting is amazing, and it’s a privilege to be playing here. We’re adjusting to the depth and the size of the gym, but we’re welcoming that with open arms,” Coach Tina Tinberg said.
The excitement from the new gym carried on in the girls’ level of play. Jacqueline Eader (12) led the team with nine kills. Victoria Gardenhire (12) followed closely with seven kills and 12 digs. Samantha Anderson (12) also had 12 digs and six kills.
“We took [Andrean] down in three [sets]. We played amazing in the first set. [We] had a couple letdowns in the second and third, but nothing to panic about. We kept our composure and finished strong. I thought Tori Gardenhire, Sam Anderson and Jackie Eader were phenomenal in the front line,” Tinberg said.
With a veteran team of seven seniors, the Indians are hopeful for strong season.
“I was expecting us to mix pretty well. We have a lot of seniors so I know it’s going to be a good year, and we’re all really prepared for the season,” Eader said.
The volleyball team will take on the Highland Trojans on Monday, Aug. 24.
