On Wednesday, Aug. 27, the varsity girls volleyball team faced off against the Chesterton Trojans. The Indians swept the Trojans with the scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 26-24.
Coach Tina Tinberg was proud of how her girls played, but she knows that there is always room for improvement.
“It’s tough to win three straight [sets] in a row in any DAC match, so you want to make sure that [you’re] sharp on all levels of the game. You can never underestimate and let a competitor win. You [have to] just keep working hard to finish off strong,” Coach Tinberg said.
During the first two sets, the Indians left no room for the Trojans to win. Once the end of the third set came, the Indians and Trojans were tied at 24-24, but the Indians eventually won all three sets in their first DAC match of the season.
“It was our first conference match, so to win that was pretty special. The whole team was clicking tonight, and the last game we kind of slacked off a little bit, but we were able to pull through and win,” Stephanie Spigolon (12) said.
With improvements to be made, the girls also did well in other parts of the game.
“We served really aggressively tonight and registered some quick points because of it,” Coach Tinberg said.
The next girls varsity volleyball game is Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Crown Point and will start at 5 p.m.
