Q: How does it feel to be nominated for the Post-Tribune Athlete of the Month award?
A: It’s an honor because only a couple people get selected. I wasn’t expecting it. I didn’t even know there was something like that, but my mom let me know, and I was really excited.
Q: Do you think you are going to win?
A: I hope so, but my parents have been doing all they can to get everybody to vote, and my teachers have been really cool about it, so I just hope for the best.
Q: How long have you been playing golf?
A: I’ve been swinging a club since I was 6 [years-old], but I started tournaments when I was 8.
Q: What is your favorite part of golf?
A: I like it all being on you. You don’t have a team that can help you. It’s all on you. It’s your round the whole time.
Q: Why did you start playing golf?
A: My parents got me into it when I was younger.
Q: Who is your role model for golf?
A: [My role model is] Lexi Thompson. She is a professional women’s golfer. [I admire her] because she was one of the youngest girls to ever go [professional].
Q: What college do you want to play for?
A: I’m taking a visit to the Michigan State [University] campus in a couple months, but I want to go to the University of Texas.
Q: What do you think your strengths are?
A: [My strength is] how far I hit [the ball]. I’ve hit it a lot farther than a lot of the girls my age just because of my strength.
Q: What do you think your weaknesses are?
A: [My weaknesses are] around the green. My short game isn’t 100 percent all the time.
Q: Who has been your toughest opponent?
A: [My toughest opponent has been] Cailyn Henderson (10). She lives in Westfield. We’ve been competing all summer in our summer tournaments and now we just go head to head all the time. We’ll being going head to head at state.
Q: What are your goals for this season?
A: I want to win state.
