The varsity boys’ soccer team advanced to the final round of Regionals after a 3-1 win over Chesterton on Thursday, Oct. 15. The team’s hard work over the course of the season led to the success in this game, which avenged their previous 3-0 loss to Chesterton in the regular season and provided momentum for the games to come.
“I was confident [going into this game] because of the training sessions they’ve put together over the last two weeks. Over the last two weeks these guys have been focused. The majority of the roster I’ve coached since they were 10 or 11 years old, and I’ve seen a vision and a desire in their eyes I haven’t seen in years,” Coach Jereme Rainwater, Vocational, said.
Michael Bikos (10) scored Lake Central’s first goal 10 minutes into the game, which was later followed by two more goals by Cole Rainwater (9).
“It felt so awesome. My adrenaline started running when I scored it, and I knew I had to do it for my team. The second half just escalated from the first half and that’s about it. I think we did pretty good,” Bikos said.
The team hopes to use this win to boost confidence for the rest of the post-season games.
“I’m just tremendously pleased with their performance today. I can’t say it enough, there’s 24 guys over there that have worked their butts off, and they deserve what they’ve gotten,” Coach Rainwater said.
The Indians will face off against the Munster Mustangs for the Regional title at Merrillville High School on Saturday, Oct. 17.
