Austin Atkins (11) prepares to start playing again after a time-out was called. Atkins contributed a great amount this season, and showed spirit during the sectional game.

The varsity football team took on the Portage Indians on Friday, Oct. 23, at home for the Sectional game. Lake Central lost to Portage with a final score of 36-14.

Lake Central was in the lead at the end of the first quarter, but by the end of the second, Portage made a comeback and took the lead making the score 16-14.

“[One thing] we could have worked on was picking up the energy level. Secondly, we should have been amped up because it was a sectional game. We also needed to work on the basics more than we were,” Jakob Brown (11) said.

In the weeks leading up to the sectionals game, Lake Central had faced a few losses during the regular football season.

“We have struggled for the past few weeks, but that was the regular season, and we are excited to see what they will do,” Coach St. Germain said.

When the game ended, many tears were shed due to the loss. However, the team pulled it together and kept their sportsmanship when shaking the hands of the players from the opposing team.
