The boys freshman basketball team faced off against the Crown Point Bulldogs on Nov. 30. The boys captured wins in both Game A, which began at 6:00 p.m. and in Game B, which began roughly at 7:30 p.m. due to the 10 minute interval in between the games.

“I think [the season is] off to a pretty good start. We were 2-0 [in] both [Game] A and B. We’re looking pretty good on the floor, so I think it’s going to be a pretty good season,” Jake Dykstra (9) said.

In the A game, the boys started off strong and confident in the first quarter, but started to slow down as the game continued. Although they were losing in the second and third quarters, the boys pushed hard to win the game with a score of 43-41.

“Toward the end we picked up the defensive side of the ball with ten seconds left. We got a steal to score the basket,” Dawson Cheney (9) said.

After they grabbed the win in Game A with just seconds left on the clock, the boys were ready to pick it up for Game B. The boys won Game B with a score of 40-32.

“It was a good game. We fought and worked hard. We played really good. I thought our defense improved in the second half, and I thought overall we out-hustled them,” Dykstra said.

The boys are pleased with how their season has been going so far.

“We don’t hang our heads or anything. We just fight hard and work hard to win the game. I have confidence in my teammates,” Dominic Ciapponi (9) said.

The players are excited, this being the first year playing for a high school team. They have been playing well and the team hopes to continue their winning streak.
“I’m having a fun time. I think it’s a really good time and good experience.  It’s fun to play basketball and do what you like doing,” Dykstra said.
