On Friday, Jan. 29, the JV boys basketball team took on the Chesterton Trojans. The Indians defeated the Trojans with a score of 50-47.
“I think we played pretty good. We locked up on our offensive and defensive end and that’s what got us the win,” Jack Davis (9) said.
At halftime, the Indians took the lead of 26-21. However, leading into the third quarter, the Indians appeared to be losing their defensive footing.
“There were lapses in the game during the third quarter were our defense gambled and gave up some open shots, but during the fourth quarter we came back. It was a good team win tonight,” Conner Tomasic (10) said.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Trojans took the lead 42-39. During the last 30 seconds of the game, the Indians were met with two fouls. These penalties sent them to the free throw line and gave them the opportunity to score three points that helped them secure the win. Even though the Indians gained a win Friday night, some players kept in mind what aspects they need to improve on to continue winning for the rest of the season.
“We still need to work on making our defense better and we all need to start to box out consistently. If we work on those things, we can keep winning” Tomasic said.
The next home game for the JV boys will be on Friday, Feb 12. The Indians will play against Michigan City Wolves at 5:30 p.m.
