The Marine Biology class has been cancelled for this school year. With few students signing up, the trip was not a possibility.
“The class was canceled this year because only 11 students applied for the class. The cost is based on 29 students. There are fixed costs for the class, like bus transportation, summer school salary, etc. With only 11 students going on the trip, the costs became extremely prohibitive,” Mr. Rhody, Science, said.
The Marine Biology course was made up of a summer school class, a trip to Florida and a year-long academic class. The students were required to earn their Advanced Open Water Diving Certificate for the class.
“[For this year’s summer trip], you had to get an Advanced Open Water Certificate rather than the regular Open Water [Certificate] one, which really made the prices go up,” Rebecca Albright (10) said.
Though the class and trip were cancelled this school year, Mr. Rhody hopes to continue the program in the future.
“It is my hope that all of the students who applied this year will not only apply next year, but spread the word to other students to get their friends involved in this great program,” Rhody said.
