In a room off of the gymnasium, nine girls of the Gymnastics team stretch, warming up for their meet against Merrillville.
“I was extremely nervous,” Jaclyn Schymanski (11) said. “I had a bad experience [at the Merrillville meet] last year. I fell off of the bars- it was slightly traumatizing.”
Despite their nerves, the Girls showed off their skills on the uneven bars, vault, beam and floor events.
“Merrillville has the best floor team, so we were really looking forward to competing against them,” Andi Wartman (9) said.
The final score was a close loss at 94-104, but the Girls are determined to train hard for upcoming meets.
“I’m going to dedicate myself to staying longer [at practice] and talking to my coaches on stuff I need to improve on,” Marissa Barney (12) said.
The Girls are anticipating a good turnout at the Crown Point and Chesterton meets.
“I’m looking forward to Crown Point. We have a chance to being really close to them this year,” Schymanski said.
