This past weekend, the Varsity Girls Swimming team competed at the IHSSA Sectionals hosted at Crown Point. The Girls worked hard all season leading up to the meet, and they went into the meet feeling confident.
Thursday’s prelims for the Lady Indians impressed opposing teams such as Crown Point and Munster. Top performances came from all girls, including Tracilyn Muszalski and Holly Spears. Both girls went into finals on Saturday with top seeds into their individual events. The team finished in third place, behind Crown Point and Munster. Not only did the team receive honorable awards this past weekend, but so did Head Coach Todd Smolinski. Smolinski was named “Coach of the Year” by the Indiana Coach’s Association. The Girls celebrated by throwing him in the water after the meet.
“I think that it was an entertaining end to the meet. I am happy for him because he deserves it because he is a good guy,” Brianna Shoemaker (10) said.
This weekend, the Girls move onto State in Indianapolis to take on a whole new level of competition.
