The Special Olympics is an international competition, modeled on the Olympic Games, in which mentally and physically handicapped athletes compete. On Sept. 23, the Special Olympics came to the Chicagoland area and Conner Caffarini (9) participated in them.

Participants are awarded gold, silver or bronze medals just in like the Olympics and Caffarini won a medal.

“I competed in golf and won a gold medal,” Caffarini said

Caffarini came out on top in the golf category and accomplished a goal.

“When I won I felt very proud,” Caffarini said.

The Special Olympics have a variety of sports for players to compete in. Caffarini chose three to participate in.

“I participated in golf, soccer and baseball,” Caffarini said.

This isn’t Caffarini’s first time playing in the Special Olympics and with his success in golf, Caffarini is eager to compete again.

“I started competing in 2011 and I plan on competing in golf again” Caffarini said.
