Girls varsity basketball played against the Merrillville Pirates on Dec. 1. Both the JV and varsity played at home and secured two wins.
“I think the game went well. I’m glad we got the win, the team really needed it,” Lauren Smolen (12) said.
The varsity games started off with Merrillville getting the ball first but Lake Central quickly taking it back and scoring to take the lead. Lake Central held the lead for remainder of the game.
“I thought we did really good defensively. Offensively, we haven’t clicked yet but we will get there,” Coach Joe Huppenthaul, Mathematics, said.
At halftime, Lake Central lead the game with a score of 23-6.
“I think we need to improve with boxing out and we need to start driving and getting in the gaps.” Smolens said.
The second half of the game was dominated by the Indians and the new goal became to stop Merrillville from scoring any more points. The game concluded with a final score of 51-28.
“We want to win the conference and the sectional. Once you win Sectionals you’re all in and you go as long as you can,” Coach Huppenthaul said.
