The Concert Band and Wind Ensemble performed the ninth annual student conductor concert on May 15.
Several students auditioned to conduct specific pieces in front of their friends and family. Each student has a passion for music, but each had a personal reason behind auditioning.
“I enjoy being in front of my peers and listening to them play,” Kenneth Whittle (12) said.
Only nine students were selected, one being Whittle, who conducted a piece titled “Instant Concert.”
“I was so nervous because I knew I was being watched by so many parents, but I’m nervous in front of any large body of people,” Whittle said.
This concert was also the last performance with the band for the several seniors involved.
“I’m going to miss seeing my friends every day and hanging out with them,” Jamie Craine (12) said.
The seniors were recognized by collectively taking a bow after Wind Ensemble performed its five tunes.
“It was bittersweet. I’m glad to be done, but I’ll miss the people and the experiences of it all,” Craine said.
