Lake Central High School hosted a FAFSA completion event in the library computer lab. The event was scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. but due to a problem with AT&T the internet was down.
“It was an unfortunate incident that we lost internet for this particular event we were hoping to actually have families complete the FAFSA,” Brynn Denton, Guidance, said.
Though the internet had gone down Mr Alex Samuel, Invested, was able to improvise and for the parents who did show up they were able to view the presentation that he put together for the 6:30 p.m.show that took place the the high school auditorium.
“We talked a lot about scholarships and grants, paying for college and one of things I love doing is comparing the cost of college. I think every family tonight, even though they were not able to file the FAFSA, was able to understand the cost of colleges to see if one could be a financial fit for them,” Samuel said.
Samuel talked about a number of topics ranging from how to complete FAFSA all the way to helpful tips about what scholarships you should apply for and know when one scholarship could be scam and when one was real. The evening ended with Samuel finishing his presentation and parents being able to ask questions or get advice on the next step of applying after they had applied for FAFSA.
“I learned a lot of information I didn’t know before. I am very grateful for [Lake Central] for putting this on,” Tina Burda, Lake Central parent, said.
