The Varsity Boys Cross Country team came in fourth at the Gavit Invitational, which was held at Dowling Park in Hammond on Saturday.
Pushing through the heat, Hobart came in first place with a score of 59 points, and LC finished with a score of 81.
“We were pleased with [the meet]. There’s always room for improvement, but for being the first race, I thought they did very well,” assistant coach Jeff Rhody said.
Since it was the first meet, many of the boys did not know how they would run.
“I think as a team we ran pretty well. We could have done better. Some of us put more effort in, but over all, we did pretty good,” Nick Lopacki (12) said.
The boys team spent the summer conditioning from 8 a.m. until about 9:30 or 10.
“Every other day we would go in the weight room and then on some days we would do core,” Andy Lane (11) said.
The boy’s next meet is on Tuesday, Aug. 28, against Merrillville.
