Knives out review
January 7, 2020
Knives Out came into theaters across the U.S. on Nov. 27, 2019. Rian Johnson directed the film and cast many big name actors like: Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Daniel Creig and many others.
This film reinvents the idea of murder mystery movies. The movie takes you through the confusing murder of Harlon Thrombe, a murder mystery novel writer. Detective Benoit Blanc as well as two local police detectives rustle through Mr. Thrombe’s family and personal life, untangling multiple hidden secrets between the family. The movie takes you through a roller coaster of emotions as they unravel the truth behind Mr. Thrombe’s death.
The setting of this film was in Mr. Thrombe’s large, dark, victorian home, filled with numerous knickknacks like a circle of knives in his living room that added even more excitement. While great thought was put into the details of the setting and plot, arguably the best part was the crazy dynamic of each character. Throughout the movie you learn various things about the characters’ personalities and you get to see how they interact with each other in what can only be described as a chaotic manner. With such a well known cast expectations were set high, they certainly lived up to those expectations. Each actor and actress stepped into their role brilliantly and really brought the movie to life.
The film brought the audience into the movie with them. While you learn little things about each character and the mystery starts to get solved, you start to form theories of you own. There was little to improve upon with this movie. The set, characters and the plot worked together beautifully to create one of the best movies of 2019.
