Even though every dual meet counts, the Varsity Girls Cross Country team is trying to look at the bigger picture for this season: Regionals and State.
The girls competed against the Merrillville Pirates Tuesday on their home turf, a meet which is seen as merely a stepping stone. The Lady Indians controlled the course, finishing the meet with a score of 50-15.
Coach Ann Downey was pleased with the girls and their races overall.
“I set a goal and asked to put ten of our girls in before their first and we did what we needed to do,” Downey said.
One of the top runners, Alaina Willis (12), finished off satisfied with her race, which put her in optimal placement to run varsity at the upcoming meet.
“I think I did well because I did better than at the previous meets, but I still have a long way to go,” Willis said.
The next meet, the Harrison Invite, will be held at home Saturday, Sept. 1 at 9 a.m.
