An unexpected change: Being quarantined due to COVID-19

On Oct. 15, I was told that I would have to quarantine due to me being in close contact with someone who has COVID-19. I had to stay home and do e-learning for a few days while I quarantined.

On Oct. 15, I received very shocking and upsetting news. That morning, I drove to school just like I always did. I walked into school to go to my Spanish class, just like any other Blue day. But little did I know that during second period, I would be called down to the office.

I walked into my second period class prepared to take my first Physics test of the school year. I was nervous about the test at first, but once I started taking it I felt better.  Except halfway through my test my teacher got a phone call. She came over to my desk and told me I needed to pack up my belongings and head to the office. I was very confused as to why I needed to go to the office in the middle of an important test.

I packed up my folders and walked to the office. After waiting 15 minutes, I finally got called back to speak with one of the office workers. She then told me that I am a close contact to someone who has COVID-19. I was in complete shock. This could not be happening, I thought to myself. I left school and went home and tried to figure out how e-learning works.

At first I was very disappointed that I would have to quarantine, but then I started realizing the pros to staying home. Although the school day was almost over by the time I got home, I still logged on to my last hour class. The next morning, I got to wake up an hour and a half later than I normally would on a school day. I loved sleeping in, it was great being able to wake up so much later and still be ready for school on time.

On blue days, I only had to log on to my first and second period Zoom calls, which was so nice because then I had the whole rest of the day to finish homework or relax. On white days, I had to log on for only my fifth and seventh period, which was also nice because I got a long break in between my classes.

E-learning was definitely not as bad as I thought it was going to be, I actually liked learning online. Along with the pros, there are also cons to learning online. It was very hard for me to focus and pay attention in my AP Calculus class due to the curriculum being so difficult. But other than that, I overall really enjoyed the experience of being an e-learner for a little bit.

After finally being able to return to school, I came to the conclusion that I prefer in-person learning better because I am able to focus more and see my friends. But, I did not mind e-learning because I think it was a great learning experience overall, even though every class was on a Zoom call.
