A sprint to the finish

The girls track team took on the portage Indians at home on Tuesday, May 4. The team celebrated their seniors with senior night and had a victory against Portage.
“Before every race we have to do a warmup and I really like to use that time to get in a good headspace and begin to focus on my race. Once I get to the line, my adrenaline is pumping until the gun goes off and I run my race,” Abby Barrett (11) said.
Running may seem simple enough to some, but there can be a lot of mental preparation involved in order for athletes to race their best. For many seniors, this night was full of bittersweet feelings as the team celebrated senior night and reminded the seniors that this would be their last high school track season.
“Senior night was really nice. The season went by so fast and it made graduating feel more real because it will be sad to say bye to everyone. This last season is bittersweet because I’m glad to be done but at the same time I’m definitely going to miss all the great memories,” Emily Thomas (12) said.
The girls are hopeful that the rest of their season will continue to be successful. Addison Roth gives her insight on how the season has been going.
“I’m pretty happy with how the track season is going so far. We just got to the post season and I’m glad to have made it this far. I think the rest of the season is going to go great and I am hoping to make it to regionals,” Roth (9) said.
