Tuesday Oct. 9 at Gavit High School, the girls cross country team won their sectional meet with a final score of 21.
“Our goal was to get our top seven [runners] in the top fifteen, and we got top seven in the top ten,” Alaina Willis (12) said.
Running against strong wind and chilly weather conditions, the racers had to push themselves mentally to achieve the win.
“Sometimes I have a blank mind but I try to stay positive during my races. But today my hip hurt. I was really looking to get second, but that’s okay,” Megan Zajac (10) said.
Looking forward to Regionals on Saturday in Crown Point, the team understands that they need to maintain their focus.
“Our mental attitude needs to stay up because Lemon Lake is a tough course, but I think we’ll do good,” Willis said.
