Following a win from the night before, varsity hockey laced their skates with the shadow of an intimidating opponent looming over them.
“Everyone’s aspect before the game was we need to go out and play how we play. Our coaches told us that [the team we were facing] were 5A champs and we were scared. But, we always play better under pressure,” Dominic Poya (12) said.
The boys proved that point by dominating puck possession the majority of the game.
“We had a good first period. They were a good team last year and we had to come out strong,” Quinton Oster (11) said.
Numerous trips to the penalty box did not slow the team down any, in fact, the team managed several offensive attempts while on the power play.
“Knowing the team, this is going to give us a lot of confidence,” Poya said.
Some close-call saves made by goaltender, Lawrence Pezzuto (11) and goals scored in all three periods of the game lead to the impressive shutout.
