The powder puff football tradition came back on Saturday, Nov. 17. The goal of the tournament was to raise money for the food drive.
“We really wanted to bring back the old Lake Central tradition of having a powder puff tournament every year. We also wanted to come up with an original way to raise money for the food drive, since we knew many girls were interested we thought it would be perfect,” Kristina Dombovic (12) said.
Bringing the ritual back was no easy task. Years ago, it was canceled because it became too aggressive.
“Getting the games approved by the principals was a challenge, but once they saw how motivated our class was to this project they couldn’t say no,” Dombovic (12) said.
Five teams participated in the action held at Dyer Indoor Soccer Arena.
“When we heard the games finally got the go ahead, we were more than excited. We got really into it, and were happy to help with the food drive,” Keller Phalen (12) said.
Many teachers, students, and parents also attended the event to aide the cause.
