On Jan. 24, the JV Girl Basketball team played a home game against the Hammond Wildcats. Lake Central took the victory with an overpowering score of 63-6. Having a full team compared to Hammond, Lake Central was able to start each quarter with a new set of players.
“We won by a nice margin. I think the main thing to take away is that we played hard and didn’t let them hang around. I think our kids knew what they were capable of. Realistically, we were pretty good, but I think we could’ve probably rebounded better. I thought they had some offensive rebounds. We could probably be a little more stingy on the defensive boards,” Coach Guard said.
The old saying rings true: practice makes perfect. Their practice of layups must have come in handy to push them farther into the last quarters of the game.
“The most memorable thing about the game was getting a lot of steals and making layups after the first quarter. Something the team is working on is continuing to run our plays on the court well,” Mia Lane (10) said.
This game was an impressive way to open up Senior Night for the Varsity team. Despite a slow start with the visiting team scoring the first point of the game, a quick and vengeful comeback was made by Lake Central.
“After we got through the rough past couple minutes, they finally played with a lot of great effort and energy, which is something we try to pride ourselves on,” Coach Guard said.
