Taking on teams from across Indiana, the Lake Central JV girls volleyball team hosted the Lake Central Invitational on Aug. 24, 2024. The girls fought their hardest, taking 2nd place in the end. One of these athletes is Madelyn Schultz (10).
“I am proud of all my teammates this past weekend. We won our first two games, which I played libero in. Being a libero basically means that I am the captain of the back court. My job is to control the passing between me and my teammates. Even though we didn’t win, I am happy with how we played,” Schultz said.
Like many other sports, volleyball athletes don’t just play for the school. They often also play for outside clubs or teams. Inferno and Epic are just a few examples of the many volleyball clubs in the tri-town area.
“Club and school volleyball are way different. When it comes to high school, I feel like playing volleyball is more used to grow your social life, not necessarily popularity, but just a way to make more friends. I think club is more about the love of the sport as opposed to meeting people. Also, I think school is more stressful because you are representing your school. For me, club is where I became super passionate about volleyball and it has become a place to go when I am super stressed over something. Personally, I enjoy club more,” Victoria Chavez (10) said.
