On Sept. 14, the Lake Central varsity girls soccer team took on the Warsaw Tiger at home. After a long game, the girls pulled out a victory, winning 2-1.
“I think we did really well against Warsaw. Our passing was good, we made connections on the field and we knew what we were doing as a team. I think this game was a lot better than our most recent match,” Gabriella Rossi-Powers (11) said.
With only a few games left of the regular season, the Lake Central girls are ranked third in their conference. The girls recognize their struggles on the field and hope to improve on them before the season is over.
“I think our season is going very well, obviously there are things we need to improve on, but I am happy with how it has gone so far. In terms of improvements, I think we need to be quicker on the field and have better connections when under the stress of a game. I am hoping that our team will make it to regionals. That’s my main goal,” Phoebe Fogarty (11) said.
Even if the girls don’t make it as far as they hoped, many will agree that just having the opportunity to play for such a big school has helped them become a better athlete.
“Being at Lake Central definitely affects me as a player. I think at Lake Central every girl can accelerate and we all have a good support system. We all work together and want to help each other out in every way possible. We really help each other grow,” Rossi-Powers said.
