The 32nd annual Lake Central Dance Invitational was held on Feb. 8 in the main gym. Though there were over 20 different teams at the competition, the Centralettes took first place all around, except for JV hip-hop, which took second. In order to achieve such high rankings, the Centralettes practiced several hours a day at M2 Dance Center.
“Dancing takes a lot of time and commitment, but I think that makes it even more amazing. We put in a lot of hours at the studio, and you’re with the team almost everyday, but that just helps you build friendships and connections. The practice time is completely worth it,” Gabrielle Eggert (9) said.
In addition to competing at regional and state competitions, the Centralettes traveled to Orlando, FL to participate in the NDA Dance Nationals in Disney World.
“At NDA we got third in our pom, sixth in our jazz and eighth in our hip-hop. Considering that we were against almost 40 other teams from across the country, I would say that we did really good,” Hailey Danielson (9) said.
Performing on national stages and continuing Lake Central’s reputation can be scary, but the Centralettes have learned to control their nerves.
“I don’t get nervous a lot, because I’ve been in recitals, but sometimes I do. Living up to the expectations of Lake Central, because we’re known for being good, and really working for our titles is one of the most challenging parts of dancing,” Ila Stacker (9) said.
