There were 262 students that participated in a winter sport this year, 94 of which maintained an A-average during their season. All of these athletes were honored at the winter sports banquet on March 12th.
Winter sports included girls and boys swimming, girls and boys basketball, wrestling, cheerleading and gymnastics.
Girls swimming finished their season with two Sectional champs, and second place rankings in both the Duneland Athletic Conference (DAC) and at Sectionals. They were also ranked 15th in the state and 36th in the nation. Boys swimming finished third at Sectionals and fourth in the DAC.
Girls basketball ended their season 10-2, taking third in the DAC. They continued on and ended their season, winning sectionals. Boys basketball had a season record of 10-4 in the DAC.
Boys wrestling went 14-7 in the DAC and saw 13 athletes advance to Regionals, 10 to Semi-State and three to State. Gelen Robinson (11) won the State title for the 220-pound weight class. Gymnastics went through some major reforms this year and spent the year rebuilding their program. The school has granted the team more freedom and let them try new things to improve their program.
Cheerleading had an eventful year with JV placing third at State and receiving third place rankings at three of the six different competitions they attended. Varsity took first at the Purdue Invitational, following that victory up with a first place at State. They also won two National Championship titles and were the grand champion, the highest score in their division.
