The LC varsity softball teams added another win to their record on April 9 with a 3-0 win over the Crown Point Bulldogs. The Lady Indians were able to hold the Bulldogs without score, while stepping up their offense.
Lilianna DelToro (11) was the rock of the defense, as she pitched a 2-hit shutout. Crown Point had a difficult time getting on base and was unable to score any runs.
“I thought we needed that win to boost our confidence. It made me feel good to beat Crown Point because they’re a big rival,” DelToro said.
Along with their solid defence, the team was able to hit and advance runners to come out with a win. Aspyn Novak (10) crossed home plate first after DelToro hit a double to left field in the bottom of the third inning. In the fifth inning, Abigail Rauch (12) hit a single to left field with bases loaded to bat in two more runs. The Indians had a lead of three runs and were able to keep the lead over the Bulldogs for the last two innings.
“The game was a really good win for us mentally. Now that we won that big game, we’re working on leaving the past behind and using that game to kick-start the rest of the season,” Christine Addison (11) said.
The varsity softball team will play again on Apr. 11 in Michigan City at 4:30 p.m.
