The home gym was filled with competitive spirit on Tuesday, Sept. 16, when the girls varsity volleyball team took on the LaPorte Slicers. The Indians swept the Slicers with scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-18.
“I’m so proud of these girls. [It was] a total team effort, from the defensive first line [to] the blocking [that] has been just incredible. We had so many digs tonight defensively. You know, they work hard. Offensively, you can see that we’re just as strong; we’re firing from every location, which makes us very unpredictable. We use the whiteboard [for the game plan] every day before a big match, and that’s the thing, they are so coachable. They take that game plan and they implement it to the ‘T’. Not a lot of teams can actually implement and execute like that, and I am thoroughly impressed,” Tina Tinberg, varsity head coach, said.
The team is undefeated in conference matches. In order to remain victorious, the girls work in practice to prepare for the tough competition of the DAC.
“We wanted this win really bad to stay undefeated in the conference and at home. Usually every time before we play [a team], we focus on a specific player who is [the team’s] strongest and how to get [the team] out of system because usually without that player [the team] can’t function. We usually do that and follow the game plan,” Samantha Anderson (11) said.
The next varsity volleyball home game will take place on Monday, Sept. 22 at 6:00 p.m. against the Lowell Red Devils in the main gym.
