Since the Quarter Quell, the 75th Hunger Games, she has been trying to recover from losing her love interest Peeta Mellark, played by Josh Hutcherson. Their love is put on hold because Peeta has been captured by the Capitol and Katniss wants to free him as soon as she can.
As she is struggling to recover from this she is begged by the people of District 13 to be the symbol of rebellion, the Mockingjay,and she takes on the role and serves it well.
