“Hot Pursuit”, the action-comedy starring Reese Witherspoon and Sofía Vergara, was released Friday, May 8. Witherspoon plays a policewoman, Cooper, whose task is to escort Vergara’s character, Daniella Riva, and her husband from San Antonio to Dallas to testify against a drug lord.
While on trek to Dallas, Mr. Riva is killed. Now Cooper and Mrs. Riva have to stay alive, trying to get along while on their path.
This movie is a cliche good-cop, bad-criminal movie. Cooper’s goody two-shoes personality clashes with Riva’s fiery one, making this movie mundane. The only difference between “Hot Pursuit” and other movies of this genre is that the characters are females, rather than males. Pretty much the only great thing about the movie is the energy played by Witherspoon and Vergara.
In the movie’s opening weekend it grossed $13.9 million, which was second that weekend behind Avengers: Age of Ultron, which grossed $77.7 million.
