On Tuesday, Sept. 22, the girls varsity soccer team played against the Valparaiso Vikings. Starting strong from the beginning, the girls held on and won with a score of 3-0.
“We produced all three goals [by slashing runs on goal]. One was a penalty kick because Sienna [Pinskey (12)] got pulled down. All the preparations were hard work and the girls paid it off on the field. I’m real proud of them,” Coach Shawn Thomas said.
With all of the practices and hard work, the girls were as pleased as the coach.
“It felt awesome [to win] because last year we didn’t. We definitely played for last years’ seniors and worked really hard. In the end, we got the win, so it was great,” Sienna Pinskey (12) said.
Last year on Senior Night, the girls were defeated by the Vikings 3-2 in the last conference game. This year’s Senior Night will be Sept. 29 at 6:00 p.m. at Lake Central. The team will play the Merrillville Pirates.
“We still have a conference game left. In order to truly be conference champions, we have to beat Merrillville. That’s going to be next Tuesday night. We’re going to prepare the same way. We’re going to go out and work just as hard, and hopefully the girls will bring home the conference championship,” Coach Thomas said.
