Debate Team Continues With Hopes for Improvement

The debate team traveled to Munster on November 5 for its second competition of the season. Over all, the members felt like they improved after their first competition.

“I improved because I was able to convey better points to the judges rather than just gain points for public speaking,” Lance Pisowicz (10) said.

At a debate competition, each member participates in several debates throughout the day, competing against students from different schools.

“Once we get through our first debate, we aren’t as nervous. We try to think positively,” Kaylyn Risse (10) said.

Risse is in public forum, which means that she debates with her partner, Brianna Mamelson (10). By the end of the season, the girls hope to place in a tournament, and the team hopes to improve.

“I hope to establish a strong varsity team before the end of the season,” Blaine O’Neill (12) said.

The team’s next competition is on December 3.
