Actors and technicians were psyched for this year’s State Thespian Conference that took place in Huntington, Ind., this last weekend. The conference held individual and group events, workshops, scholarships and a dance.
“I love going to the State Conference,” Anna Swan (11) said. “You get to meet new people, watch other shows and see new perspectives on theatre statewide.”
Swan works behind the scenes as a technician instead of an actress.
“I went to State last year because I was a part of the Happy Daze run crew,” Swan said. “I also placed fourth in light set-up [one of the technician challenges at the conference].”
However, Swan does tech for fun. Eve Mendoza (10), another technician, plans to incorporate this into her future plans.
“I plan to attend the International Thespian Conference,” Mendoza said. “I believe it will build up my experience, and I’ll get to meet famous directors. If I make STO [State Thespian Officer], then I’d try for ITO [International Thespian Officer].”
