Girls Bowling Clinches 2012 Westlake Conference Title

Although the bowlers were not aware at the time, Jan. 5 was an important day for the team. It was the day the Girls officially won the conference title over Bishop Noll, Crown Point and Merrillville High Schools.

“I’m happy about winning conference, but the main goal is to win Sectionals so [that] we can continue on our path to the State Finals,” Coach Stephanie Cooley said.

The Girls took the match by a score of 16-4, but they did not know that it would lock them in first place.

“I feel really great about it since it’s my first year on the team as a junior,” Allison Sellers (11) said.

Despite having an earlier loss against Crown Point, Sellers was still hopeful for a conference win.

“Halfway through the season, I was confident enough that we would win [conference]. I’m still confident that we’ll make it to State and win,” Sellers said.

With one match left in the 2011-2012 season, the Girls are in first with a 14-1 record and 232 points- 40 points more than second-place Merrillville.

The last match will be a position round against Merrillville at Olympia Lanes in Hammond at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23.
