Months of practices, matches and tournaments were just mere preparation for Saturday’s Indiana High School Bowling State Finals.

“I was ready. I knew what to expect. The only thing going through my head was, ‘Don’t get second like last year; take it all,’ ” Colin Young (11) said.

After taking second at last year’s finals, the Varsity Boys Bowling team was ready to come back with similar, if not better results.

“If we made our shots, we would be OK, but carry wasn’t on our side,” Young said.

Unfortunately, not all the pins were carrying, and the Boys ended up in fourth after a 332-381 loss to Alexandria. Even though it was not first, it was still placing fourth in the state of Indiana- a state with 198 bowling teams.

“I felt like we bowled pretty good that day. We qualified better and bowled good for the shot. We pretty much got out-lucked in our match. That’s part of bowling, though,” Andrew Schmied (9) said. “I had an amazing freshman year with a great team.”

In addition to a Boys fourth place finish in the team event, two sophomores, Kelly Belzeski and Caroline Dienes, took part in the Girl’s Individual event. Sectional Champion Belzeski finished in sixth place with a 534 series, and Semi-State Runner-Up Dienes finished in 14th with a 485 series.
