On Wednesday, April 19, the varsity baseball team defeated the Crown Point bulldogs 4-0. After losing to the bulldogs 9-4 on April 18, Matthew Litwicki (12) led the Indians to victory.
“It definitely felt good that we beat Crown Point. We lost to them the game before and we all wanted to win that game so badly. It was a good team effort and [Litwicki] pitched phenomenally,” Christopher Funduch (12) said.
The boys scored quickly in the second inning when Fundich hit a single, letting Nicholas Bandura (12) score a run.
“Scoring early is important to us because we do not want to get too far behind during the game,” Bandura said.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the team secured their runs when Maxwell Pattison (12) stole home base to make the final score 4-0.
“Overall it was a good win. Everyone hustled and very few mistakes were made. Good base running was the key to this game,” Bandura said.
The team went 1-1 in the series against Crown Point.
