A New Form of Fundraising

This year, the Boys and Girls swimming teams are taking a new approach to fundraising. In past years, the teams have held a wreath sale, but this year they are hosting a triathlon.

“I decided on the triathlon because I wanted to get away from the standard selling,” Coach Todd Smolinski, Social Studies, said.

The fundraiser consists of a swimming, biking and running portions that will take place at LC.

“I have participated in these for the last few summers and we don’t really have a lot around here,” Smolinski said.

Anyone 14 or older can participate as an individual or in a relay team of two to three people.

“There was an entrance fee, we have sponsors and also received donations,” Smolinski said.

T-shirts, designed by Elizabeth Markiewicz (11), will also be sold at the event in efforts to bring in more money for the team.

“I hope to continue this [next year], but you never know with the construction,” Smolinski said.

The swimming teams will be working the triathlon taking place Saturday morning at 8 a.m.
