The 2012 London Olympics are a few days away and the hype has begun. The Opening Ceremony is July 27 and it joins the world in one big event occurring every four years, a tradition known as the Summer Olympics.
“I enjoy watching the Olympics because it’s great to see all the competition, and it’s really inspiring to see the whole world come together for an event, even though they are competing against each other,” Meri Dodevska (12) said.
During the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, the world saw American swimmer Michael Phelps break records and make history. This year he will come back as a competitor, once again trying to swim his way to the top.
“Well there’s sure to be a lot of action in swimming as usual,” Christopher Albright (12) said.
There are other fierce competitors to look for this year, too.
“People should watch Lebron James on the American basketball team because he is an amazing player and is sure to do a good job. Also, Jordyn Wieber and Gabby Douglas in women’s Gymnastics. It’s crazy that girls that are so young can do flips like that,” Dodevska said.
Competitors are going to be pouring their hearts and souls into the next few weeks, bringing entertainment and pride to their countries. You can go to www.london2012.com for all information and results pertaining to the Olympic games. The games will also air on NBC.
“I love the Olympics because the whole world comes together and it’s so full of peace and goodwill,” Albright said.
