Prepping for sectionals
September 18, 2019
After a successful season, the girl’s golf team played their third-to-last match on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The girls played against Highland and Munster High School at Palmira Golf & Country Club in St. John. Since they played at their home course, they decided to have a practice run before Sectionals on Friday, Sept. 20.
“Practicing at Palmira was beneficial because we learned the course a lot more and it helped us,” Sarah Sanders (12) said.
The three seniors on the varsity team were honored for their achievements that night. They wore pink skirts and pink ribbons in their hair to make themselves stand out from the other golfers. Taking on the leadership role was nerve wracking for some of the seniors.
“I felt a lot of pressure this year because we’ve had so many years previous that we did so well. This year when we started, we were just honorable mentions and we’re slowly making our way back up on the charts to watch out for, which is nice because people don’t realize that we have a team. Just because one person leaves or two people leave doesn’t mean that we don’t have a team, so it’s nice proving people wrong and that we actually still do have a team this year,” Danielle Colantuono (12) said.
This season, the girls grew a lot closer and formed a stronger bond. They’ve done several things together like team sleepovers.
“I just love seeing the team grow from the beginning to the end and just how we all come together towards the end and really push through but my favorite part as a team is just being like close because we have team sleepovers all the time, we do everything together. We’re always with one another so it’s nice having that one little friend group always,” Colantuono said.
They have a goal of winning Sectionals this season and have tried their best to prepare themselves for it.
“We wanted to go undefeated in DAC which so far we have accomplished and then we hope to win Sectionals because we have a streak going. Hopefully we make it out of regionals to state,” Colatuono said.
